The Hopi Indians did many forms of cave wall artwork in about 500 AD. They created these works of art to show the story, or legend of the ant people.
The Legend of the Ant People
The first world was going to be destroyed by the sky God Sotuknang, and he ordered them to go live with the ant people under the ground. They were guided by an odd shaped cloud by day, and a moving star at night. They were escorted through the caves underground by the ant people. They found safety and refuge in those caves. The ant people taught them many things about food storage and tidiness. Also, legend says that the reason ants are pinched at the waist was because the ants deprived themselves of food so their guests could have plenty off food. They caves and ant people kept them safe while Sotuknang was destroying the world.
